The Abingdon Motorsport Carnival is now in its 23rd year and is stronger than ever. This year is the 16th running of the Autosolo and with each year the event seems to get bigger, better.
Newbury Dolphin Motor Club have had the pleasure to run the Autosolo since it started at the CAR-nival and like fine wine we hope this will be one of our vintage years.
The CAR-nival Autosolo event counts towards four championships; the ACSMC, ASWMC, BTRDA and CMSG Autosolo Championships and is a popular part of the Abingdon weekend – Be warned that entries for the event fill up fast so get yours in quickly as entries will be dealt purely on ‘First come first served basis’.
On behalf of the Association of Central Motor Clubs, the event is also being run as the Motorsport UK Inter-Association Team Event where Teams of 4 entries will consist of at least 1 car from Classes A and B and any two others. There is no extra entry fee for this category and all entrants are encouraged to get their own Regional Association to enter a team.
As a part of The Abingdon Motorsport CAR-nival Weekend (which has raised over £259,000), a large element of the event is based around raising money for good causes and this year in addition to The Friends of Stowford (Charity No 1089136), we will also be raising funds for the direct welfare of those stationed within Dalton Barracks.
Because of this, you will note that we ask you if would like to make a ‘separate contribution’ towards the charitable part of the event. In addition to your direct contributions, Newbury Dolphin Motor Club also donate from the event towards the charities so we hope you will join us in the fund raising for these worthy causes.
Apart from the Solo, the CAR-nival weekend also features Sprinting and Stage Rallying as well as Camping, a large Beer Tent, BBQ and Saturday evening a free cabaret (Comedians). Anyone wishing to stay for the weekend is welcome in the camping area although you must appreciate that the facilities are ‘as a farmers field’. Camping and caravans are free of charge but must be placed in the designated area only.
Anyone wishing to stay locally will find adequate accommodation at several Travel Lodges and Travel Inns all within easy reach of the venue (early booking is recommended for either The Apple Cart (Travel Inn – Didcot) or the Holiday Inn Express (Pear Tree Inter-change – Oxford).
We urge you to join us at The Abingdon Motorsport CAR-nival Solo and make a weekend of it by staying over to help or watch the Sunday Stages and enjoy the social side of things with the beer tent and cabaret on Saturday evening.
The 15th CAR-nival Autosolo was a qualifying round of a number of Autosolo championships including the prestigious 2018 BTRDA Autosolo Championship, supported by Demon Tweeks. Run by our friends at Dolphin Motor Club, the event was its usual rip-roaring success.
4 Tests covered the day and Keith Pettit claimed the FTD honours in his Austin Healey whilst amongst the experts, Stuart Harrison claimed FTD in the ‘family’ GBS Zero GT.
Autosolos are a great form of grass-roots motorsport, the Abingdon CAR-nival is considered to be one of the most testing events in the country. There are 2 levels of event, a ‘National B’ event for experienced licence holders and championship contenders whilst there is also a ‘Clubman’ event for those just starting out.
There’s no need for safety helmets or special clothing so all you need is a suitable car and a willingness to have fun…
There were over 40 competitors taking part in the tests held on the cross runway to the South of the event Marque.
